Chuanxiong

Appearance: The dried rhizome is an irregularly nodular, fist-shaped mass with a yellowish-brown to brownish-brown surface and dense annular nodes (the cut surface of what is commonly known as “butterfly slices” or “chuanxiong slices”). It has a firm texture and a strong, fragrant aroma.

Chuanxiong is a classic aromatic rhizome-based Chinese medicinal herb with core effects of promoting blood circulation, regulating qi, and relieving pain (especially headaches).
