Saposhnikovia Root / Ledebouriella Root / Fangfeng

Saposhnikovia root is pungent and warm, acting to dispel external pathogens, and excels at expelling wind. Its medicinal property is mild, slightly warm yet not dry, sweet and moderating without harsh potency. Commentaries on the Classic of Materia Medica states it is “a universal herb for all wind disorders”. Therefore, it is commonly used for exterior syndromes caused by exogenous wind-cold, wind-damp and wind-heat, as well as rubella and pruritus. It has been used as a wind-expelling medicinal herb in China for 2,000 years.
